Facing the past could change his future.
Veterinarian Neal Rodgers is in Wander Canyon seeking the truth about his past—not to rescue a litter of kittens under his next-door neighbor’s porch. But persistent single-mom Tessa Kennedy is impossible to ignore—especially when she uncovers a family secret of her own. Discovering the hidden facts of their histories could be the key to unlocking everything in this small town.
When Tessa’s car finally pulled up, Neal headed out his side door. Even as he told himself not to get involved, he met her as she gingerly lifted the box of mewling cats out of her back seat.
“I’m gonna keep ’em,” she declared without any further explanation.
Eight cats? He couldn’t help raising a dubious eyebrow at her pronouncement.
“Well, not all of them,” she added in answer to his expression. “I’m not gonna be some crazy cat lady. Just the little guy.”
Without any explanation, Neal knew she was referring to the sickly one. A lost-causer—he should have seen that one coming. Years in veterinary practice had given him a pretty sharp instinct for people given to hopeless causes and taking in strays.
She smiled at him with those wide, overly friendly eyes. Neal suddenly wondered if he wasn’t giving off some lost-cause stray vibe without realizing it. After all, those words could indeed classify the reason he was here. And Tessa certainly wasn’t letting up on her attentions to him.

Doris-
What’s cuter that kittens? Okay, some people would say puppies, but I think both are adorable. Who could be sad with a pile of furry cuteness in your lap, right?
Colleen C.
I love animals so I would say both! 😀
Allie Pleiter
Both, yes! Only I’m not sure how long the cuteness would last if you put them together….. 🙂

It’s hard to deny how cute puppies can be. Until they chew your favorite shoes…..

I hear you. An hour with some adorable puppies would feel very good with all that’s going on in the world today.
