This week is Thanksgiving week in the U.S.. It's a time for giving thanks for the many blessings in our lives. And this year I have so much to be thankful for--both big and small.
The big things I'm thankful for this year is this chance to chase my dream of being a published author. I'm thankful that Harlequin and my editors took a chance on me. And I am thankful to the readers who also took a chance on me. :-) I will do my best to repay everyone's kindness by trying to learn more each day about my craft and write more compelling stories. ;-)
But beyond my writing I am thankful for my very patient and understanding husband. He is amazing and I am very fortunate to have him in my life. I'm also grateful for my wonderful children, who are quite remarkable. They make me so very proud with the courage and determination they show each and every day. And I love that they want to take time from their busy lives to talk to me and find out what's going on with me.
And then there are the little things in life in general that so many people take for granted, myself included. Such as the blessing of a roof over my head. The luxury of heat. The awesomeness of meandering to the fridge and finding it full of food. The simple yet amazing gift of being able to go to bed with a satisfied stomach. I feel very, very blessed because not everyone has those luxuries that so many of us take for granted...myself included.
Sometimes I think about trying to keep up with the neighbors. The new cars. The new houses. The vacations. But that isn't what happiness is all about. And sometimes I have to slow down and realize that I am very blessed with the things that truly matter such as the love of my family.
So this week I hope to pay a little more attention to the simple blessings in my life, the small ones that usually go unnoticed. :-)
