Tara’s hopeful nonchalance intrigued Luke more than it ever had. He’d finally found his sassy, laidback lady that would love him. She was a snappy work of art he couldn’t resist. Her projected innocence snagged him the first time they met.
Things are moving in the right direction. How do I bring my lovely lady along for the journey?
Before long, Olivia took a much-needed breath. The lull in the conversation reminded him about the other people in the room. He leaned his mouth close to Tara’s ear while speaking in a stage voice.
“Since you’ve hardly spoken, Rick wants you to critique the sunset for us. I prefer a soliloquy while we watch together.”
Tara’s audible breath intake surprised him. His sister, Steffi, did that same thing when insecure. The lady was indeed a hard sell. By now she should view him as a keeper like he did her. Luke had invested way too much of himself in their relationship to let her go. Was he getting ahead of himself by expecting too much, too soon? Still, what brought on her reaction? His words or the intent behind each one he spoke?
It’s time to spend the rest of our evening alone.
